Creating Livelihoods & Job Opportunities

We believe that economic inclusion and job creation – ensuring that people have and can take advantage of opportunities to earn a living – leads to poverty eradication.

Strømme Foundation East Africa is committed to promoting economic inclusion to improve livelihoods for the rural poor through enhanced income generation.

We promote access to microcredit mecessary for business start-up. Additionally, we aim to improve the food and nutrition security of vulnerable households through effective and sustainable business linkages with agricultural value chain actors, employment creation for women and youth.

Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET)

The Programme approach sets out to impart youths in the age bracket of 20 – 30 years with employable skills for self-reliance.

It aims to create sustainable learning opportunities that nurture youth empowerment and socioeconomic inclusion.

The apprentice works with the local artisans and learns the respective trade on the job.

Community Managed Savings Groups (CMSGs)

Targeting majorly women poor people in communities are organized in self-selected groups of 20 to 30 people. With the supervision of community-based facilitator (CBF), they are equipped with skills such as financial literacy, business management, and life skills. Members can borrow from pooled savings and are able to start Income Generating Activities (IGAs).

Economic inclusion of the rural poor

The programme targets the most marginalised individuals living in hard-to-reach areas to improve their economy and build their resilience.

We provide climate-smart agricultural vocational training, to provide an income generating revenue source and improve their food security.

The right to decent work

We work according to the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 8 on decent work for all. In particular, we work to ensure that companies and authorities take responsibility and fulfill the rights of employees.

Young people need income

In many developing countries, more than half of the population is under 25 years of age. Education, vocational training and job opportunities are crucial for a new generation to emerge from poverty.
